Arctic Drilling, Parvati Magazine and Ujjayi Breathing

Hello friends,
I have lots of news for you this week!
First, you might have heard that Shell has stopped drilling for oil in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska. Many are celebrating that this means no Arctic drilling. But in fact, Canada’s Arctic waters are still under the very real threat of oil exploration:
“We know that Shell has already invested billions in the Arctic and will be writing off $5.2 bn to withdraw from Alaska. We see this as a reflection of the reality that there is no true profit to be made by pursuing unsustainable activities such as Arctic drilling,” says Rishi Deva, Parvati.org’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “The danger is that Shell will likely look for ways to make up this loss in other areas in the vulnerable Arctic.”
Next, the latest issue of Parvati Magazine is live. This month’s theme is Forgiveness, and features this excellent content:

  • a review of Pema Chödrön’s latest book, “Fail, Fail Again, Fail Better”
  • the latest in my YEM: Yoga as Energy Medicine series
  • an interview on restorative yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater
  • my article on being open to all life brings
  • three inspiring documentaries screening this fall

Please go and check out these great articles and share them with your friends.
And finally, I have joined the Do You Yoga community! I have a post there about why I don’t teach ujjayi breathing:

In working with and witnessing the energy system of many ujjayi practitioners over the years, I have generally noted a force, however subtle, applied to the body to create the sound associated with this breath. Noting the use of this imposed constriction, I have found people who practice breathing this way display several similar tendencies

So no matter what your interests are, there is lots of wonderful information for you to enjoy this week! I would love to hear what resonated most with you. Please feel free to post a comment below.
Until next time,
Love yourself.
Love others.
Love our world.
We are ONE Earth family.
Namaste,
Parvati
