Awakening into Connection

After repeated request from many of my yoga students and teacher colleagues, I composed an album to support the practice of yoga. The music on Electro Yog naturally follows the arc of a one-hour yoga class, without lead vocals to compete with the instructor’s voice. We are redesigning the Positive Possibilities online store, but it is still open for any purchases you may like to do. If you feel so moved, you can purchase Electro Yog there now for yourself or for someone you love.

How to Choose the Light of Your True Nature, Part 3

Image credit: Amy Dianna (Continued from Part 2) When we apply effort towards what is good for us, we experience the heat of transformation, where our personal will rubs up against our karma, or our tendencies. Such is called tapas in Sanskrit. Through tapas, we burn off the effects of our actions when we make choices that lead us in the direction of our greater good. The heat caused by our efforts can feel uncomfortable. We often think of grace as being a sweet pat on our head by the universe. But for those who are truly willing, everything in life can be seen as grace, even that which feels uncomfortable. When we remember that we are within a loving whole, we meet this moment as it is, without resistance. In that state of receptivity, we understand that our desire for something that does not support our highest purpose, such as a chocolate cake, is fueled by an old pattern, a view of life through an outdated lens that no longer serves our greater good. When we understand that the desire for the cake is just an old habit, it no longer has power over us. We no longer see life as happening “to” us, something to which we are a victim. We see instead that…

The Gifts of Mercury Retrograde

Hello friends, I sit down to write to you as a moment of pause from my ongoing production work to launch an online TV station, which includes web work, script writing, art direction, video shoots, video production, and much more. This is all a part of our “behind the scenes” efforts to give my new music video “Yoga In the Nightclub” and accompanying EP the launch it deserves. We are really a team of three. My husband Rishi, my friend Pranada and I are the little engine that could, working long hours to provide inspirational content that serves a greater whole. In the process, I have grown to integrate aspects of my shadow, been blessed to live with fierce, laser-like joy, and learned more about what it means to live a life of true effortlessness. I will share more about the new insights in coming posts. But for now, I would like to explore a bit about an astrological happening that occurs three or four times every year. It affects everyone, especially those, like myself, who are in communications fields. We are now in the midst of an astrological period known as “Mercury retrograde”. In 2015, Mercury will appear as though it is moving backwards in the sky from January 21 – February 11, May 19…

Freedom of Speech in an Interconnected World

Avant tout, nous sommes des âmes: Freedom of Speech in an Interconnected World We are blessed to live in a society where we have the right to read this blog. As I mentioned when I shared the story of a young girl who fled North Korea a few weeks ago, there are nations around our globe where rights that we take for granted are not an option for people like ourselves. Though last week I said I would post part two of “How To Succeed at your New Year’s Resolution”, I will do so next week. Instead, I feel the need to touch upon this week’s brutal murders in Paris of five satirical cartoonists (and seven others). I extend my deep compassion for all those who have and are suffering through this – those grieving the loss of their loved ones and those driven to such violent acts, blinded by hate. The horror of the incident has led me to look more deeply at the power of speech, at our responsibility to use it wisely and at the way we are all connected. At the same time, I have just learned about the devastating tragedy in Nigeria in which Boko Haram, an organization against democracy and education, has killed as many as 2000 people – mostly…

The Effortless Ease of Being

Meeting The Moment Without Stress Fifteen or twenty years ago, I heard someone say that if you are stressed, you are in your ego. At that time, I had no idea if that were true or what a life without stress would look like. But somehow, the words stuck in the recesses of my mind. They have acted as a backdrop to the ongoing spiritual experiment that is my life. As I have been in the recent process of honouring an unstoppable force moving through my life, a new vibration has begun to reverberate in my cells. I now feel closer than ever to understanding what a life without stress means, and what it looks like to live in effortless ease in every moment, every day. Through my Hatha Yoga practice and teaching, I have come to know that any form of movement that arises from wanting is one that perpetuates or creates karma. Whether we push into a pose and reach for some elusive sense of externalized perfection, or move out of a pose feeling uneasy or even repulsed by what we felt in it, we are acting from an unyogic, that is, non-unified or divisive, state of mind. This will only generate suffering for ourselves and others. At its heart, Hatha Yoga is not…
