During the summer of 2010, I felt I had to do more to help raise awareness of our planetary interconnection, our need for conscious awakening and our ecological responsibility. What arose was the call to go to the North Pole to sing, perform and do healing work there, to help bring attention to the melting Arctic Ocean and how it affects all life.

Before I left on my North Pole journey, I dreamt of a great blue whale below the ice at the top of the world, while I lay motionless on the ice surface. I woke from this dream with a complete understanding of the message I was to carry and the work I would do.

When I arrived in Canada’s most northern village, two Inuit elders greeted me, saying they had known I was coming – the whale had told them. In that moment, I knew I was playing my part in something vast and purposeful beyond my understanding. We are all interconnected. Nature’s intelligence works through us, when we are willing to listen.

In the fall of 2014, I learned the Canadian government had granted permits for seismic testing in the Arctic Ocean. Seismic testing involves blasting the seabed with sound 100,000 times more intense than a jet engine, every 10 seconds, 24 hours a day. I knew this would do devastating harm to the whales and the ecosystem. I could not let this happen.

I immediately founded the not-for-profit Parvati Foundation and rallied specialists in various fields. Our all-volunteer staff have worked tirelessly ever since with one key goal in mind: establishing the Marine Arctic Peace Sanctuary (MAPS). MAPS establishes all ocean waters north of the Arctic Circle as a marine protected area free from all natural resource exploitation, commercialization and military activity.

We have taken the bold and unprecedented step of drafting an international treaty as an addendum to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. We translated the treaty into all six official languages of the UN and sent it to the leaders of 193 countries. With the signature of only 99 nations, the treaty takes effect. We are in dialogue with government representatives around the world to secure treaty signatures.

MAPS must be realized now. The planet cannot wait.

I have dedicated my entire creative offering to the realization of MAPS, and speak about it in all my media appearances.

MAPS is realized when the people of the world come together to call for it in one voice. There are countless volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved. For more information and to sign the petition, please visit
